Guatemala and the United States of America have 173 years of diplomatic relations and a long list of cooperation in different areas. At Universidad del Valle de Guatemala (UVG) we share principles and values with the U.S. Our curriculum or general requirement is in line with universities in the U.S. that offer equal opportunities and strengthens critical thinking, access and diversity principles.
This cultural week, organized by the Coordination of Internationalization (CDI-UVG), highlighted this mutual understanding. It also highlighted the opportunities for collaboration between UVG, U.S. universities and various U.S. cooperating agencies.

Important Partnership
The people and government of the U.S. are friends and important partners to UVG. With them we have promoted a large number of projects. An example of this is the support of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and its American Schools and Hospitals Abroad (ASHA) program. This initiative for the development of infrastructure and equipment has allowed us to carry out our academic and research work. Another example is the ASPIRE collaborative project between UVG and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
Additionally, the Research Institute was founded in 1977, after the collaboration between UVG and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Over the years, it has grown its research in health, agriculture, archeology, biodiversity, and development along with impact in the country with the support and collaboration with different U.S. cooperation agencies.
Our Partnership Continues!
Arthur Evans, Public Affairs Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Guatemala, commented on important matters of the UVG-U.S. alliance. For example: In 2021, our Central Campus became the first international university to be visited by Kamala Harris, Vice President of the United States during her term in office.
In addition, eight of the top ten universities in the USA partner with UVG. These universities have hosted more than 700 UVG students in exchange programs.
In less than a decade since launching the American Week, we have created opportunities and strengthened ties. These ties and access to best U.S. educational practices provide opportunities within our country. In this way we can build an environment of success and contribute to the development of Guatemala.
Follow our activities organized by the Internationalization Coordination (CDI-UVG) and learn about the opportunities that UVG offers outside our country.
